Let’s get ready to enjoy fall!

We can keep it simple and on a low budget.

Grab your calendar and start making plans to get all the fun fall activities on your list right now.

Apple Orchard & Pumpkin Patch

Would your family enjoy a trip to the apple orchard or the pumpkin patch?

These are our typical fall go-to’s.

This can be a great opportunity to spend time together as a family and get some pictures

We will take a blanket and try to get some shots within the rows of apple trees.

If you are on a budget stay thrifty while there.

Only purchase an item or two. Obviously, we want to support the farm we are visiting, but we are all at different places in life.

If your budget is extremely tight, go minimal on purchases and just try to enjoy the experience for your children.

The pumpkin patch we visit has a wagon ride to go out to the field to collect pumpkins. Take a ride a few times, just for fun. They also have a playground.

Your children are going to remember these experiences, plus the pictures you take. They aren’t going to remember if you bought 4 dozen apples.

Maybe you eat a meal before visiting and only purchase a snack to share. Take your own water bottles.

The pumpkin patch and apple orchard can be done without breaking the bank.

State Parks, Hiking, and Fall Camping

Get out in nature this fall by visiting state, city, or local parks.

You could enjoy simple walks and more intense hikes

Fall is a beautiful time to spend outside. We have passed the extreme heat of summer and can enjoy walking in the cooler weather. You may also have a beautiful view of the leaves that are starting to turn

If you haven’t tried it before fall is the best time to enjoy camping.

Check the weather to avoid rain and make sure the night temperatures won’t be getting too low.

Fall camping can typically get you an enjoyable experience. It is cozy to sleep in a warm sleeping bag as well as enjoy the fire in the evening.

Halloween Fun

If you celebrate Halloween, it is time to start thinking about costumes and bring everything together.

If you have young children, family costumes are so cute! See if you can come up with something that fits your family.

If you are taking a baby out with you make sure they are comfortable and warm. I recommend making sure their costume is something warm. Like this bear suit for example.

Also, make sure your costume is something you can easily carry your baby while wearing.

You may not want to be a huge gumball machine if that makes it difficult to carry the baby.

Consider incorporating a wagon or stroller into your costume.

We have combined camping and Halloween for the last few years.

It is a blast. The campsites are decorated. People go all out. It is great because they shut down the roads. Our children can easily walk from site to site because they are so close and we don’t have to worry about traffic.

The folks passing out candy sit outside rather than knocking on doors.

It makes for a great experience.

Fall Parties & Cookouts

Fall parties and cookouts are a blast in the fall.

During the summer you have to worry about the heat, whereas in the fall you can let your kids play for hours and they can handle it.

Fall parties and cookouts with friends are an easy way to spend time together and reconnect

They can be done on a tight budget if you make them pitch-in style. It could be everyone bringing a type of chili or soup and turning it into a competition.

You could make a baked potato bar and make hotdogs over the fire.

Take advantage of the crisp fall air and weather this year.

Leaves and Crafts

Sometimes keeping life simple is best.

Get outside and rake your leaves. Let your kids jump around in them.

Just make the effort to spend time together as a family. It is so simple, but just takes that little bit of effort to gather everybody up and go outside.

These are the memories you want to make. Take that small effort.

You can also do so many crafts with leaves. Your little kids can make wreaths. They can collect leaves for tracing or embossing them on paper.

Your little toddler can sort them by size or color. You can make this an educational moment!

They can simply glue them on paper in a beautiful arrangement.

Kids can have fun with anything!
