Types of Baby Books

The idea of a baby book can seem daunting;, however, it does not have to be! You do not have to go the traditional route when it comes to capturing your baby’s memories.

My personal strategy has been to do a traditional baby with a journal. The journal is something I use to write little stories or experiences. Baby books simply don’t have enough space for things like that. You can write about your first family vacation or the first time they rode a bike. You can go into detail!

Another option is to use modern methods. There are apps and products out there where you can digitally throw all your memories and they basically create the baby book or memory book for you.

You can capture your child’s memories in whatever form feels easiest and more natural to you. Go with the method that will result in the least amount of friction to complete. If something is too hard for you to do it simply won’t get done.

What to Record?

When you set out to record information about your child, what do you find most interesting or want to remember?

Do you like the basic stats? Are you setting out to record their height, weight, and call it a day?

Would you rather have a place to write little funny or cute stories? Like that time they farted and it scared them so bad or when they got their first haircut and wanted to go back the next day.

Babies, toddlers, and kids say and do the funniest things! At the moment you think you will remember it forever but let me tell you it is easy to forget. They move on to a new funny or cute thing.

Take the time to record these precious moments. One day you will go back and read them, and it will take you back to that moment in time.

Are you a picture person? Does the picture say it all for you? Maybe you are not a writer and that is perfectly fine!

Now when it comes to pictures do you want to keep them all digital or take the time to print them out and put them in a baby book? What do you think you can realistically manage?

Finally, videos are your favorite media? Video 100% will take you back to that moment. I find them the most tricky to easily access through. Like where do you store videos other than on the cloud in files?

Call me old school.

Why is It Important?

Deciding to record your child’s memories is a personal decision. It can be a lot of work.

However, I feel like it is worth the effort. I am excited to have so many little stories to share with my babies as they grow up.

These are the beautiful things in life.

I don’t want to talk negatively about the daily world and all the struggles we constantly share. I want to share sweet and beautiful moments with them that they created.

Save these memories before you forget them. Trust me you will forget.

It is also fun to look back at how your children were different. Which one rolled first or walked at a later age? Of course, just a healthy comparison here, nothing crazy.

Looking back can also help you get through the hard times. Say your second baby is two months old and you are struggling. They are constantly getting up through the night. You think back and say our first baby slept through the night after a week. In reality though when you go back and look through your journal you realize they did not, in fact, sleep through the night at a week old. It took them 4 months to sleep through the night.

You can now remind yourself that you made it through with the first baby and you can do it again. All the rough phases come to an end.

Make it Easy!

As I said before, you need to pick a system for capturing memories that is easy for you.

If you are going to print pictures, save them to a print folder on your phone. If you are going to keep a paper journal keep it handy in your nightstand

I went through a phase where I created memory boxes for my kids. They included items from the hospital stay, a couple of their first outfits, the baby book, and anything special or important.

I kept both the journal and baby book in these boxes that are stored currently high in a closet. I realized pretty quickly that this is way too difficult to journal a random day at the park. I need those items to be stored somewhere that makes it easy for me to update them in real-time.

Updating in real-time is important. You do not want to get behind on baby books or you will give up.

If something special happens that I want to journal, typically I will make a note on my phone as a reminder to get the journal or baby book out when I have time.

Conclusion

It is completely up to you how you store your precious memories!

The main key is to do so!

Make it easy. Keep up in real-time.

Thank yourself later.

And enjoy your beautiful memories.
