When the seasons change we need to get ready to embrace what is coming. Get organized and get prepared this spring for what is right around the corner!

I am not here to talk about spring cleaning! Instead, we are going to talk about everything else we need to get done!

Let’s dive right into what you need to tackle this spring to get things tidied up and ready for summer!

1. Car Clean Out

Whenever a nice spring day rolls around get outside and give your car a good clean.

If you have children or toddlers that eat in the car you are really going to need to deep clean. Consider taking out car seats and giving them a good scrub down.

When it comes to your car make sure you give the outside attention too. You can DIY it or hit up the nearby carwash. Make sure to get all the winter salt and grime off your car.

If it is a nice day go ahead and take advantage of giving your car a quick check-up. Check the tire pressure and see if any air is needed.

Look through your records for when you last had the oil changed. Compare it to your current mileage and consider scheduling your next oil change.

Your car is responsible for getting you from place to place. Take good care of it!

2. Yard and Garden Prep

As the season is changing it is time to start thinking about your yard and garden.

Let’s start with the yard. If you mow it yourself, you need to get the necessary items prepared. Get any gas or oil your mower requires. If those tires need to be aired-up do that as well.

Walk through your yard and pick up any fallen sticks or branches before your first mow.

If you didn’t do it at the end of last fall consider sharpening the blade on your mower.

A little maintenance can go a long way.

If you pay a company to mow for you check in with them on when you can expect them to come out and if there have been any changes in services or pricing.

If you plan to have a garden you want to take the springtime to start preparing your pots, garden boxes, or plots of ground.

Gardening can of course take many different shapes and forms.

Start getting your seedlings and figure out exactly what you want to plant.

3. Outside Cleaning

On a nice spring day take a walk around your house. Notice what needs to be done or could use some maintenance.

This could be clearing out your landscaping. Ideally, you did it last fall, but it may still need some work. Clearing out helps allow room for blooms to pop up.

Take notice of any painting that needs to be done. This could be the trim, a shed, or the mailbox.

Make a list of anything that jumps out at you to work on later, hire out, or investigate further.

Spring is also a great time to clean out the garage. Move out your vehicles and give it a good sweep.

Of course, clear out any unused items. Look for children’s items that may be outgrown from last summer, such as riding toys.

4. Clothing Rotation and Clean Out

With the coming of spring, it is time to go through and clean out the winter clothing!

Out with the old and in with the new.

For your closet, you may do a seasonal rotation of clothing, jackets, and shoes. Put the winter stuff away and have ready what you need for spring and summer.

For your children, this may mean getting rid of clothing that is no longer season-appropriate and will be outgrown by next year. Keep the items that will be used next year and move on with the rest.

See what you have for spring and summer that fit each child. Make note of what you are missing.

You can garage sale, thrift shop, or purchase new for any holes you are finding in their wardrobes.

Keep in mind items such as summer shoes and sandals as well as swimsuits. While we are on the topic of swim attire make a quick note if you need to purchase any other swim-related items such as floats, lifejackets, sunscreen, or sunhats.

When it comes to clothing you may need specialty items for summer sports and activities. Let’s move on to that next!

5. Children’s Summer Activities

Start looking into both spring and summer sports and activities.  Get them signed up for any spring activities asap. You may already be too late. If that is the case, look into summer activities.

Activities could be anything from sports, swim lessons, camps, and learning opportunities.

Your child could be interested in a long-term sports season or possibly just a week-long camp to improve their skills. If your children are old enough and interested you need to start looking into sleepaway camps.

Consider other activities such as art classes or tutoring in a particular subject.

Swim lessons are my strong recommendation if you are unsure what activity to enroll your child in. It is physical and helps build safety around water.

With all of these activities, you may need to purchase proper clothing and equipment.

Once signed up for activities take the time to get them on the calendar.

You can also start scheduling and thinking about family activities too. If you don’t have a vacation planned for the summer get it on the books now!

Use this time in spring to make the most of your summer plans! You will thank yourself later for getting everything in order before it is too late.

6. Looking Ahead to Fall Sign-Ups

Let’s see if we can get even further ahead and check into fall sign-ups and activities.

Often in the spring, you need to make arrangements for school in the fall. Get your children enrolled in daycare, preschool, kindergarten, or whatever level they are at.

You may want to go ahead and look into fall sports, activities, and commitments. Get them on the calendar now if you can.

7. Quarter One Goals and Budget

My final task for you to look at this spring is to review your goals and budget for the first quarter.

These could be your personal goals or family goals.

Did you and your husband set a goal to do one date night a month? Let’s take a look at the first 3 months this year. Were you successful?

Goals are best looked at broken down into smaller chunks. Don’t wait until December to see if you have failed or succeeded.

If you are either tracking your expenses or trying to stay on budget review how you have done the first three months this year.

Where are you doing well and where do you need improvement?

Conclusion

Take a little bit of time and knock out these simple tasks to get ahead of the game for spring, summer, and maybe even fall.

You will enjoy the feeling of being prepared while moving into the next season.
