I love dressing my girls cute on the weekends, but I am also a very practical momma. I want their clothing to be comfortable and make sense for their ages

I am not trying to make them look overly grown-up or mature.

Outfits need to be practical too. They need to be able to sit, stand, play, and move around in general. No matter where you are going or what event you are attending, they need to be able to be functional and comfortable

Let’s dive into a few ways we can dress our little girls oh so cute, while still being comfortable!

Simple and Comfortable Clothing

Making your little one look nice is not all that difficult.

Get away from the toddler print shirts and opt for solids or simple pattern shirts. For little girls I love a basic pair of jeggings. This is my most sought-after piece of clothing.

Little jeggings match everything and always look nice.

They are also very stretchy making them very comfortable for your little girl.

Another great option is a simple onesie or shirt. I found one that had ribbing on it making it look quite nice, plus it had a ruffled shoulder.

I ABSOLUTELY love this look!

Onesie

Jeggings

Boots

As much as possible I try to make my girls look good without always needing dresses, skirts, and rompers. Don’t get me wrong I do still buy those items, but I really enjoy the pants and shirt combo.

I would pair this outfit with a little boot in the fall and winter then cute sandals in the spring and summer

And finally, if your little one will tolerate it a little ponytail, headband, or bow. This of course will depend on their hair style and length.

Keep It Simple!

Accessories

I recommend you avoid accessories as much as possible. I would instead focus on making the necessities cute. Aka make the shirt cute, don’t use a puffy vest to be cute. This isn’t a practical item with car seats.

I don’t do a lot of hats or sunglasses. My children were never the best at keeping them on and wherever you go that is another item to hold on to and keep track of, versus cute pants aren’t going to randomly get lost.

Are you with me?

I don’t like to make my girls look cute if it is going to require a lot more effort on my part.

I suggest making the basic outfit look as cute as possible aka shirt, pants, socks, shoes, and nice hair in some form.

Then add one accessory at most. The hair products could be the accessory.

Hair products like I said before will greatly depend on their age and hair style.

When I purchase bows and headbands I try to avoid patterns and go for solid colors.

Mix and Match

Part of my strategy is the ability to mix and match pieces. As I mentioned before, jeggings are a go-to item. Then I can mix and match with any shirt/onesie in the closet.

And finally, I like very basic, but stylish shoes.

For example, my daughter will have one pair of boots for the entire winter. I do not get black, brown, and gray!

Nope! I make it work with one color that I can almost guarantee I got secondhand

The same goes for sandals. I will get one nice pair that can go with everything. The key is to get neutrals

The outfit is neutral shoes and neutral pants with jeggings. Then you can add a bold shirt. The shirt can be colorful, patterned, and as busy as you like.

This strategy saves me so much money!

Do Not Overbuy!!!

When it comes to more stylish clothing do not overbuy!

My strategy includes having just a few pieces that are typically worn on the weekend only.

During the week whether at home or daycare, we wear whatever. Tennis shoes, leggings or jeggings, and a fun kids shirt.

Most of these clothes are hand-me-downs that I don’t stress about. They can be played in and worn out without any thought.

Children grow so quickly. You do not need to have 10 cute outfits in size 18 months. Instead, only get a few because before you know it they are on to the next size!

Wear those same outfits everywhere on the weekends. No one will care or judge you. Wear them hard and then move up to the next size with fresh fun and cute outfits.

Dresses and Rompers

Ok, let’s touch on dresses and rompers. Everyone thinks this is what you need to dress your little girls cute.

False!

Honestly dresses and rompers can be more difficult to work with. They are more likely to have little straps and come in tank tops. They sometimes have uncomfortable fabrics like lace or tulle

Some children struggle with an unfamiliar fabric touching them. They will be cranky because they can’t handle it.

Dresses often mean tights. I have quickly learned I do not like tights, instead I typically will opt for leggings under a dress.

If your daughter is still young enough to be constantly on your hip a dress will ride up. They constantly look like a mess

This is another reason I like the shirt and pants look.

Pro-Tip:

If they are still little enough, I recommend onesies. These make outfits look even more put together because the shirt will not ride up!

Rompers can be adorable. We have enjoyed a few over the years. You do have to be careful with them though. I do feel like they can be a bit mature at times.

They are typically really cute though and are one piece so require no mixing or matching.

I would not recommend rompers when you are getting to the potty training phase though. Be mindful of the ease or difficulty of getting an item on and off.

Conclusion

Overall I like my girls to be comfortable. During the week they wear whatever and on the weekend we step up our game a bit.

You can do the same quite simply. Find those classy staples to complete their wardrobe. Look secondhand, that is where I typically buy my daughters’ clothing and find items that will match everything!

My biggest takeaways:

Jeggings

Neutrals

Solids

Comfortable Fabric
